Great for my uses

I love PorterCable. This set has been wonderful to use and work with. I have been using them forMy home remodel projects. Perhaps this set is not as good as a more expensive Dewalt set however I still think the quality is fantastic.

Drill,saw and flashlight are great. I am a nivice, but have used allof them extensively to do lots ofodds and ends. Would highly recommend and its right for the price.

Great starting kit for most home jobs

I think that the Porter-Cable 4 piece combo is a great starting kit to tackle most home jobs. The impact driver works well to deal with all of the "screw" work that you may need to do around the house. The drill also does a good job boring through both new and old wood. The weight balance of the tools is decent and even though there is a lot of plastic, the tools feel sturdy. The weakest tool in the kit is probably the flashlight, which is not very bright as it uses a regular bulb rather than LED. I have also used the reciprocating saw with no problems in cutting through both wood and metal. The trigger can vary the speed which is helpful in preventing jumping of the blade.The major drawback though is that the combo comes with Ni-Cd batteries which make them a bit bulky and heavy. You will also eventually get a memory effect, as with all Ni-Cd powered packs, so your battery life will diminish as you keep recharging. But the instructions state that you can use the Porter-Cable Li-Ion packs interchangeably...but this will drive your cost way up. Compared to some of the other entry level priced combos such as Ryobi, Skil, or Black & Decker, I thought that Porter-Cable was superior. Almost comparable to Ridgid, but not on the same level as Makita, Dewalt, or Milwaukee.I would recommend this for someone who needs cordless power tools for the occasional home job. The value pricing makes it much more affordable to have a few more handy tools rather than just one superior professional grade tool. If you would describe yourself as a heavy user with projects every weekend, in those cases, it would probably be more worthwhile to invest in a Li-Ion based, high-end, and more ergonomic cordless tools.
