really do you need more?

After a couple of bad experiences with Lith Ion ( rigid ) I went back to the tried and true Ni Cad.On my work truck I have a 14.4 dewalt and the thing sits there in the cold Iowa winters and it still works a long time between charges, and while working on a large job with serveral trades working I noticed the guys working mostly with the smaller voltage Ni Cads and did a little survey and found for 90% of the work thats all you really need and light weight with long run times and cheaper battery replacement costs it just fits. The Makita is replacing a 18v rigid that even when new never worked when it was cold. Makita tools are well made and carried by most of the big box stores. I'm happy with the price and most likley wont need to shop for a new one for several years.

Makita lasts longer than any other!

I've had my Makita 14.4 for 15 years and it's still going strong even after multiple drops from ladders etc. I've finsihed 2 basements, put metal roofs on barns, built multiple decks and the thing just keeps running. The batteries are still the original ones although they don't last as long as the used to. But they still work great! I'd never buy anything but Makita!

Not up to Makita standards

Bought to replace my 12v Makita that was bought in 2008. The chuck would no longer grip very well. & the batteries would no longer hold much of a charge. I thought the 14.4 volt might be a step up... Not So.With the new 14.4v, the chuck would not hold it's grip even on the first day of use. Do a little job, turn to walk away holding the drill down and the bit would fall out. The power didn't seem to be any greater than the old 12v. Plus, when you tightened the clutch all the way, it did not lock. Put a little pressure on it and the clutch would slip.I bought it in March 2012. By June, I was disgusted with it & purchased the Porta-Cable PC180DK, 18V. I'm still using the Makita for small jobs but if you have anything serious to do the Porta-Cable is a good buy and a good product. If I couldn't have but one, I'd choose the Porta-Cable.I've been a Makita user for many years but don't think I will buy another. Sometimes a company just becomes complacent and the competition just overtakes them.
